Posting to Social Media 0/1
Posting to Your Social Accounts from OneCMS
OneCMS allows you to share content with your audience by posting to your linked Facebook & Twitter accounts (haven’t linked your social accounts yet?) The tutorial below will take you through the steps of selecting which social accounts to post to and how to share stories or images with them.
Posting to Your Social Accounts
To access the Facebook & Twitter posting interfaces, go to the Social Post menu and click Add New.
… or alternatively, you can use the Dashboard shortcut to make a new Social Post.
The Social Dashboard
The Social Dashboard is a simple, scaled-down interface to make posting to your social accounts intuitive and fast.
There’s 4 main sections to the Social Dashboard:
- Selecting the Social Accounts you want to post to (Post To section)
- Your status message text (Post Text section)
- Any images you are included in your post (Post Image section)
- Any links that will be included in the post (Post Link section)
Selecting Which Social Accounts to Post to
You can post to as many Facebook and Twitter accounts as you want to all at once! However, you first have your social accounts linked with OneCMS.
If you see the below message in the Post To section, that means you have not yet given permission for OneCMS to post to your social accounts. You can click the link to access the Social Configuration pane where you can link your Facebook and Twitter accounts with OneCMS. (Read more about linking your social accounts with OneCMS in the Linking your social accounts to OneCMS tutorial)
Once your accounts are linked, You can choose which accounts to post to by using the Facebook and Twitter selector menus in the Post To section.
Once you have selected the accounts to post to, the Post To section will display with the accounts you selected as the post destination. You can add more accounts by using the dropdown, or you can remove accounts by clicking the x icon on a social account name.
Composing your Post
There are numerous different way you can compose your social posts. With just text, attaching an image, sharing a link from your website or manually entering a link. We’ll go through each of the ways you can customize your post.
When you have multiple accounts selected to post to, you only have to post the text of your post once and it will be published to each of your accounts. Just add the text of your post to the Post Text section.
It is important to note, if you have selected at least one Twitter account to post to, you will be limited to 280 characters in your post text. If you do not include a Twitter account in your post, your text is not limited.
Adding Images to a Post
Using images in your posts are a great way to add visual interest as well as give the reader an idea of what you are writing about when scanning their social timelines.
You can add an image to both Facebook and Twitter at the same time by selecting them in the Post Image section.
- If you have only Facebook accounts selected, you can add up to 10 images.
- If you have at least one Twitter account selected, you are limited to 4 images.
You can either drag and drop your images into the Post Image section, or use the Select an Image button to choose from your Media Library or upload from there.
As long as you see the Add More button, you can include more images in your post.
You can remove images from an unpublished post by clicking the delete icon on the selected images.
Adding a Link to a Post
You can add a link to both Facebook and Twitter at the same time in the Post Link module.
The Post Link module has been designed to allow you to easily find a post on your website to share or let you paste any link you find online to share.
Manually adding a link
You can add a link to pretty much anything you find online just by pasting the full URL in to the Add a URL to your post field and clicking the Add Link button. This will attach the URL to your post and show a preview of the website you linked.
You can remove a link by clicking the trash can icon on any link.
Searching for and adding a Post from your website
You can also use the Search for a post on your site field to find posts that are native to your website to include with your social post.
Either click the dropdown arrow to see recent posts or start typing the name of the post you want to include. Once you see the post you want in the dropdown, select it and click the Add Link button.
Previewing Your Post
After entering all the fields for your post, you can get a good idea of what it will look like on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the Generate Preview button at the bottom of the Social Dashboard (this is not required to publish your post, it is optional and purely informational).
Note: If you make changes in your post, you will need to click the Generate Preview button again to view what your changes will look like in the preview.
Publishing, Scheduling and Saving your Post as a Draft
Publishing a social post works exactly the same as other OneCMS content types. In the publish metabox you can…
Click the Publish button to post immediately:
or if you want the post to be published in the future, first select a date and time before clicking Publish…
…or if you want to continue working on the post later on, or to save your progress, click the Save Draft button.
After publishing your post, you’ll see a notice at the top of the screen with a link to view the post(s) on the social network you published them to.
Clicking the link will open a window with links to the post on each social network account you published it to.
Managing Social Posts
The Social Post listing screen will show you all of the posts you’ve have previously made ones that are scheduled to be published in the future. Each post is named by the first 50 or so characters of your post text.
It is important to note that once a post is published to Facebook or Twitter, it can no longer be edited. If you edit a published post, all fields will be grayed out.
If a post is Scheduled in the future or in Draft status, you can still make edits to the post.
Deleting a Post
Deleting a post is permanent and also removes the post that was published to the social network as well. Make sure you want to delete the posts that were published before deleting!
