Video players are essential for displaying videos on your website. Creating different players can serve various purposes, especially when using Google Ad Manager Advertising for your Pre-roll instead of the built-in Video Pre-roll. Let’s dive into the details below.
For Partners NOT using Google Ad Manager for Pre-roll
Access the Players screen by going to Video > Players.
You’ll start off with no players at first. Since you need at least one player for your website, click the Add New Player button. This will open a modal where you can name the player and save it.
Once saved, the player will appear in the Player listing. It will also display the Player Shortcode used for embedding this player anywhere on your website.
If you make a Player the DEFAULT player for your site, you’ll see a notation for that on the player as well. You cannot delete the Default Player.
For Partners using Google Ad Manager for Pre-roll
The main reason for having multiple players is for those using Google Ad Manager for their Pre-Roll. You can add Ad Tag URLs to your players to target specific Pre-roll advertising to different areas of your website.
Why Would I need multiple players?
For example, you might have a player on your Homepage and a player for Your Local Sports, each requiring different pre-roll advertising. You can achieve this by associating a different Ad Tag URL with each player and managing them separately within Google Ad Manager.
If you have Ad Manager Pre-Roll enabled in the Video Settings, you’ll see an extra field for the Ad Tag URL when creating or editing a player.
- Paste the VAST Ad Tag URL here, and any pre-roll you associate with that Ad Tag will play before videos viewed through this player.
The Ad Tag URL will also be displayed on the Player listing page.
Any videos played through this player will include the pre-roll specified in that Ad Tag.
